Updates to Site After Feedback

This post will be a bit shorter and more oriented around changing an existing thing based on user feedback. I have had this Wix site for a while with plans almost as old as my Wix account to upgrade to my own domain that I own through Namecheap. I have told myself over and over I will do it but first I wanted to get a design I knew I could at least attempt to replicate with my own skillset.

The current version you are seeing is after a couple major changes to this website after asking a close friend and my roommate is not afraid to speak openly with me about my work. Below is the previous version which had its final update almost a year ago before I started to get feedback and got to redesigning a clone.

I really like watching things move. Gears cogs, assembling machinery, and pretty much anything on How It's Made interests me because I like watching things function. I think this influenced the decision to make almost everything shift, transform, and rotate on the page. Turns out this doesn't look as great as I hoped.

Other parts of the website were also brought into question like the color scheme, it's brightness and strain on the eye over long periods of time and the background. I thought hard about what would mitigate these issues and explored things like coffee themed colors, no background, and removing all the shift/transform/rotate animations.

I think at the end it turned out to look a lot better, be easier on the eyes, and now I'm considering changing more as part of the next iteration on the design.
